The Barry Pride Festival first took place in 2019, initially centered around Barry's High Street. It brought together local traders to create a vibrant space for celebrating the town’s LGBTQI+ community.

After a hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the next festival took place in October 2022 at the Eastern Shelter on Barry Island, next to the iconic beach huts. The event featured a march from Parade Gardens to the promenade, via the causeway, bringing together people in a powerful show of unity.

In August 2023, Barry Pride returned to Barry Island. During the annual general meeting (AGM), we gathered feedback from the community, responding to requests on social media. As a result, it was decided that the 2024 festival would move to a new location: King's Square and Central Park.

Barry Pride is an incorporated organization, managed by a group of four trustees and a dedicated steering committee, each taking on various roles and responsibilities to ensure the festival's success.
